Introduction

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in Annapurna region Nepal.9 days Ghore Pani Poon Hill Trek offers you the lifetime experience of spectacular view of Annapurna mountain range, beautiful Pokhara valley, Fewa Lake, several Caves and Temples, Camps for thousands of exiled Tibetan Refugees, under privileged Gurung and Magar ethnic people also known as Gurkhas for their bravery whose history begins back from the first and second world wars, their culture and living style, breathtaking view of whole Annapurna Mountain Range including Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre(Fishtail), Dhawalagiri and several other snowcapped peaks. Ghorepani Poonhill trekking starts at Nayapul one hour drive from Pokhara following uphill trail through fields, villages, Rhododendron Trees, Forest and small Tea houses up to the beautiful Ghorepani Village, literally Ghorepani means Horse water where the local people and Nepal-Tibet traders used to fetch water for their horses. Upper region of Ghorepani area is covered with Rhododendron trees which is Nepal's national flower blossoms during March/April. Poon hill, a view Tower, where mountains stand in front of you, is the highest point you gain in this trek providing you amazing view of whole Annapurna Mountain Range. After Poon hill the journey descends down through a typical Gurung village Ghandruk and ends at Nayapul again. Upper region of Ghorepani Poon Hill area is covered with snow and ice during January-March.
 
Pokhara is considered as the most beautiful city in Nepal due to its clean air, less traffic and panoramic view of mountains.Ghorepani Trek has been the first choice for those first time trekkers in Nepal who has less hiking experience or less time available for hiking who want to make most of their short time in Nepal. Ghorepani Trekking attracts people of  different age and profession due to its moderate difficulty, warm enough temperature through out the trekking route,  incomparable view of mountain and villages and comparatively safer region in terms of High Altitude Sickness, Avalanches , flooding, landslides etc.
 
Here is the day to Day Itinerary for 9 Days Ghorepani Poon Hil Trek:

Day 01:Your arrival in Tribhuwan International Airport Kathmandu

 If you book your trip with agency, the agency will pick you up at airport and transfer to hotel , trip briefing, change money, settle trip bill payments, introduce trip guide/porters, free evening at Thamel.
 
Day 02:Drive to Pokahra by Tourist Bus/Car/Van 7 hours or 25 minutes scenic flight

Afternoon short sightseeing at Lakeside, if you take a morning flight, you can have a half day sightseeing around Pokhara city including Caves visit, Boating at Phewa lake, Visit Tibetan Refugee Camp etc.
 
Day 03:Drive to Nayapul 45 minutes by Car/bus/van. Trek to Tikhedhunga(1540m) 5 hours
 
Here your trekking starts from a small settlements of local market and crosses a small bridge and follows easy muddy road and arrives in Birethati across a bridge. The trail slightly ascends after Birethanti through forest, fields and arrives at Hille village at the elivation of 1475m.Your guide may arrange your first lunch
in the mountain in this stop and the trek continues further to Tikhedhunga Village where you will stay at a Tea House(Lodge) with small rooms, shared bathrooms, fairly warm hot shower but incredible food. You will be eating your dinner at the same Lodge where you sleep through the whole trekking due to unavailability of enough  restaurants outside and Hoteliers also expect the clients to eat inside their lodge providing the room at cheaper price. Enjoy your dinner and sleep early before 10:00 pm

Day 04:Trek to Ghorepani (2855m) 7 hours
 
Wake up at 06:30 wash and order your breakfast and go for packing, eat breakfast and start your second day trek to Ghorepani.The trail ascends through the steep uphill of Ulleri where the stone steps are said to be 2000.Banthati is good stop for lunch.After lunch you will feel chilly as we have gained significant height since the morning. The trial  slightly ascends through Rhododendron forest and arrives Ghorepani Village.
 
Day 05:Hike up to Poon hill 3210m 45 minutes and Trek down to Tadapani 2710m 05:30 hour
 
You need to wake up early at 05 am to catch up the sunrise view  over Annapurna Mountain Range from Poon hill, bring Torchlight , hike up to Poon hill and enjoy sunrise view, return to Hotel, eat breakfast and continue trek to Tadapani.The trail slightly ascends through Rhododendron trees up to the ridge providing you another great view of mountains and landscape above Kali Gandaki Valley and descends to Banthati, a lunch stop after Deurali. After lunch the trail passes through forest, small streams and there is final 30 minutes uphill before arriving Tadapani.
 
Day 06:Trek down to Ghandruk 2012m 04 hours

This is an easy day walk down to Ghandrunk village through Rhododendron forest and small streams.The main trail splits up here with the left hand side trail going to Annapurna Base Camp. There is no lunch stop in between Ghandruk and Tadapani.Ghanduk is a beautiful Gurung village inhabited by Gurung people. Annapurna South and Himchuli mountains are seen at their best from Ghandruk village. You can have afternoon walk around this village. There is a Gurung Museum at the middle of the village. Many youth from this village are recruited in Singapore and British Army every year.
 
Day 07:Final Day walk to Nayapul 06 hours
 
The trail passes through several stone stairs and descends down to Syauli Bazar and continues through a leveled rocky road to Banthati where the route to Ghore Pani Trekking splits at your first day trekking. Banthati is a great stop for lunch. You can try if some fresh fish are available from the near by stream. You are at Nayapul after final twenty minutes walk and drive to Pokhara by bus/car/van 45 minutes.
 There your sightseeing starts as arranged in your schedule. If you take flight to Kathmandu you can have more time for sightseeing in Pokhara valley.
 
Pokhara has several sightseeing spots such as Davis Falls where the water from Fewa Lake falls into a narrow dark gorge. Few minutes south from the Davis Falls, there is a Hindu Temple inside Gupteswori Cave, the tunnel inside this cave is connected with Davis Falls. Further south around 5 minutes walk leads you to a small Tibetan Refugee Camp where many women are seen knitting carpets and selling souvenirs. This is a good place to buy Carpets, it is worth visiting inside the carpet weaving house nearby.
 
After the tiring week, boating at Fewa lake gives you relaxation, there is a beautiful Barahi Temple around the middle of the lake.
 
Other sightseeing places in Pokhara Valley includes Mahendra Pul, Chamere Gufa(The Bat Cave), Mahendra Cave, Sarankot a great view point for sunrise and valley view etc. A short hiking up to the World Peace Stupa across Fewa Lake offers you great view of Pokhara Valley below the Annapurna mountains. Normally you have to buy your own dinner at Pokhara as normal packages don't include foods in cities. There are choices of good restaurants in Lakeside Pokhara. You can even go for a late night club, Dance Bars, Nepali Folk Song Battle etc if you love drinking and night outs. Hiring a bicycle and riding around Fewa lake is another great experience in Pokhara City.
 
Day 08:Drive or Fly Back to Kathmandu
 
In the case you have chosen to fly , you can visit more sightseeing spots mentioned above.
After arriving in Kathmandu, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square (an ancient Royal Palace), there is a Temple of Kumari(Living Goddess) inside Kathmandu Durbar Square, you might catch a glimpse of Kumari Girl through the window overhanging to a fine stone paved courtyard. Evening walk back to Thamel through Asan Street, which is one of the biggest local market in Kathmandu, gives you better experience of busy life in Kathmandu. At the end of the day shop around and dine at your own choice.
 
Day 09:Departure
