It normally takes 14 days for this trip which starts from Lukla, continues via Namchebazar, ascends to Gokyo Valley and descends back to the Lukla again.

Gokyo Lake is located at the height of 4790 m from the sea level. Several guest houses are built on the north-east side of Gokyo lake. There is a peak on the western end of the Lake called the Gokyo Ri(Ri means Peak in the Local Sherpa Language). When you walk up to the top of the Gokyo Ri 5357m, you will be astonished with the panoramic view of Khumbu Himalayan Range including The Mt. Everest 8848 m, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho-oyu, Makalu, Thamserku, Amadublum and many other peaks. Many trekkers want to trek to Gokyo lake due to it's incomparable beauty and the adventure offered by the Lake and Gokyo Ri.

Besides the natural beauty, Gokyo Lake trekking offers you greater insights of local ethnic Sherpa People, their living style, custom and culture, who have made this region home for decades. Sherpa people respect the mountains as their god where hundreds of Sherpas have lost their life during expeditions. You can watch and feel their integrity, hard work and humbleness closely while you walk in this route.

There is no human settlement above Phortse Tanga except the Tea Houses established for the trekkers. There is a Medical center at Machhermo at the height of 4410 meters providing information and basic treatment on Altitude Sickness. Dole 4038m is a crucial point in this trip as most of the trekkers are considerably tired, dehydrated , excited and anxious around this point. So if you feel any of the altitude sickness symptoms, you should seek some advice at Altitude Center in Machhermo.

Day to Day Itinerary For Everest Gokyo Lake Trek:

Day 01: Your Arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport(TIA) Kathmandu

We pick you up and transfer to hotel followed by trip briefing, guide/porter introduction, finalize payments, arrange necessary cash, buy general medical stuffs, rent sleeping bags/shoes if needed, shop around, dinner at Thamel and recheck the necessary gear for the last time

Day 02: Flight Kathmandu (1315m) - Lukla (2840m), Trek to Phakding 2640m 4 hrs

Meet your guide/porters at hotel lobby and drive to airport. Normally the guides accompany you from and to Kathmandu-Lukla whereas porters will be the locals in Lukla, It's a scenic 30 minutes flight to Lukla where we start our trekking, eat breakfast at some teahouse at Lukla and start trek to Phakding.
The trek starts through the narrow street of Lukla which is considerably busy as this has been center for hundreds of porters, traders and some local people. People from lower region also come up here for seasonal work opportunity. The trail continues through forest, farms, small streams and tea houses and ends at your first day stop in Phakding located at the bank of Milk River(Dudh Koshi).
Rooms are smaller but clean with shared toilets, although there is a better Hotel at the bottom of Phakding village called Yeti Mountain Home Lodge which is very expensive compared to other normal tea houses here. You have menu of variety of foods. We normally order our dinner before 6 pm and eat around 7-8 pm and go to bed before 10 pm as we have to walk harder the following day to Namche. It is wise to order your breakfast for following morning if you don't want to wake up early.
Day 03: Trek up to Namche Bazaar (3440m), 6.5 hrs
Wake up at 06:30 am, clean yourself and order breakfast(if you haven't ordered previous evening) before you go for packing your luggage. We normally start day trekking at 07:30-08:00 am. The trail crosses a  suspension bridge above Milk River and continues along the western side of the river through pine forest, frequent teashops, small houses, several boulders and rocky trails.
Morning becomes hotter after few hours walk. After crossing a suspension bridge over the same river, we walk through the eastern side of the river and  arrive at Monjo village at an elevation of 2835m here we enter into the Sagarmatha National park after registering  our Trekking and TIMS permit. The trail slightly descends down to a bride on the same river and arrive in Jorsale which
is the last village before Namche. We eat our lunch here in Jorsale and get ready for the harder part of the day walk. The trail now crosses the bridge again and continues through narrow rocky path and ascends until a high suspension bridge over Dudhkosi river coming down from Khumbu Glacier. Before crossing the bridge we have to be very careful if any Yaks or horses are coming from the opposite side as the path on both sides of the bridge is very very narrow. After crossing the bridge, the hardest part of the day starts here as rest of the trail is steep uphill walk for 2 hours until Namche bazar. There is a  view point at a rocky platform around the middle of the uphill, if the day is clear you may have the first glimpse of Mt. Everest. The trail further climbs through tall pine trees and bushes and arrive at the bottom of Namche Bazar. We still need to walk more 20 min to reach main Namche village.
Namche Bazar is the biggest village in the region where we have around 150 lodges and offers you many facilities like hot shower, shopping, post office, money exchange, internet, ISD calls, pool house, Iris Pub, German Bakery, grocery shops etc.

Day 04: Rest (Acclimatization) day at Namche Bazaar
After breakfast hike up to Everest View Hotel via Syanboche Airport(not used now because it's too risky), bring along your walking stick, camera, water bottle and windproof jacket. After one and half hour steep uphill walk, we will arrive at Everest View Hotel, where you will have panoramic view of the Mt Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nupse, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Day 06: Trek up to Machhermo (4410m), 6 hours
The trail climbs steadily through the left side of valley  passing through narrow path, several boulders, Rhododendron forest,  grasslands and arrives in Tongba 3950m and further continues via Gyele 3960m and arrives in Dole which is a perfect place for lunch. After the lunch the air becomes thinner and cooler as the trail again ascends through meadow on its way to Lhaparma at the height of 4330m and Luza at 4340m before arriving in Machhermo.
