Annapurna Base Camp Trek Fast Route, Shortcut To ABC

ABC Trek Short Cut Route
Generally it takes 10-15 days trekking for Regular Annapurna Base Camp Trek as practiced for years. However, ABC trek can be completed in 10 days with little risk if you are physically fit, adventure lover and passionate about enjoying the breathtaking view of the Annapurna Base Camp but have short time.
In this case we can use the recently constructed road up to Syauli, take Jhino to Syauli route and skip the Ghorepani Poon Hill Loop. Although taking this shorter route is at high risk of mountain sickness but many trekkers have completed this shortcut to ABC without any problem as long as you have proper preparation.

As the highest altitude of the ABC trek is 4130 mtrs only and all the route is covered with forest, streams , villages and Pastures except one day around the highest
elevation at Base Camp Area, we can technically avoid any AMS as long as we spend only 2-3 hrs. above 3700 mtrs.
In this adventurous trek, you will walk only 6 days with 5-7 hrs daily walk in average.
Below outlined Itinerary gives you the rough idea how ABC trek can be done in short time. In this case, we recommend to take one way flight to or from Pokhara to save time for sightseeing in Kathmandu and Pokhara city and one way road drive on  Kathmandu Pokhara route that gives you the real  experience of different life style of the Nepalese people living at different parts of the nation.

Day To Day Detailed Itinerary

Day 01:Kathmandu Arrival

On the first day, we will pick you up from the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu and check in your hotel at Thamel area followed by trip briefing, Guide introduction, check equipment, prepare some cash for your extra expenditures, nearby attractions and settle final payments for the Trip.
Day 02: Drive to Pokhara, evening at Lakeside

You will be picked up from the Hotel early morning and driven to bus stop/ Airport and leave for Pokhara. After arriving at Pokhara, you will have boating at Fewa Lake and light walk around the Lakeside before dinner at lakeside. Lakeside has hundreds of restaurants offering you wide menus from around the world except the seafood.
Day 03:Drive to Nayapul/Syauli and Trek to Jhinu Danda
We will drive to Nayapul by Taxi and take Bus/Jeep to Syauli Bazar further 25 minutes drive. We start our trekking from this small village on the river bank surrounded by forest, small villages, streams, waterfalls etc. There is slightly uphill walk at the beginning until a School at the middle of the village. The trail now goes towards the right hand side of the school through a leveled path along the field for about 2 hours. After crossing small teashops and a suspension bridge, the trial descends towards the river bank. We now follow the river from the left side.

The view on both sides of the river are amazing. The whole day walk will be hot as we are walking below 2000 mtrs throughout  the day.

Jhino Danda is a small village of the ridge between two small rivers one coming from the base camp and another from Ghorepani Poon Hill side. Night will be cool and the rivers could sound while you sleep on your first night sleep in the mountain.
Day 4.Trek To Dobhan 2505 mtrs
The real adventure starts as we start our day through tough uphill to Chhomrong village located at 2 hrs distance from Jhinu.Chhomrong is a beautiful village with splendid view of Annapurna South and Himchuli. The village is inhabited by Gurung ethnic people who mostly rely on seasonal crops, tourism business and some of them are working at famous British Gurkha Army.

The trail now descends towards the bottom of the village through stone staircase path.

After crossing a small suspension bridge, we now start climbing the hill for whole morning before we arrive at Sinuwa for our Lunch. Sinuwa is a beautiful with stunning view of Fishtail Mountain and
Ghandruk village.

After lunch, the trail passes through bamboo and Rhododendron forest in a leveled and rocky trail for about 2 hours until we arrive at Bamboo Village with several tea shops. After taking a short rest at Bamboo, we now continue trek trough wet forest and bushes comparatively narrower and rough trail. We will arrive at Dobhan before the sun sets in the small village with few Lodges.

Day 05.Trek to MBC (Machhapuchhre Base Camp) 3700 mtrs
It will be another long and adventurous day walk. The morning will be hot as previous two days passing through deep bamboo and wet forest. As the MBC lies at the height of 3700 mtrs , it is obvious that the trail takes uphill path gradually through out the whole day. The lunch will be served at the Deurali village which is the last village surrounded by trees providing you sufficient oxygen and normal environment for easier walk.

We cross the river several times after the lunch and walk through the valley until the MBC at 3700 mtrs height. The Loop between Deurali and MBC is the most dangerous parts of the entire ABC trek
during winter in terms of Avalanches after Snowfalls as the narrow Valley is shrunken between two high snow walls on both sides. Any small snow slide may trigger an Avalanche here due to steep hills over the trail and trail passed through several ravines.
Day 06.Hike To ABC and trek back to Himalaya/Dobhan
We get up early morning and hike towards our final destination that is the Annapurna Base Camp located at 4130 mtrs. We should wear proper clothes as the temperature in the morning could be relatively lower and the upper region is often filled with snow and ice. As we began our day, the Annapurna Sanctuary appears on the northern direction as the Sun starts rising over the Annapurna mountains. The trail now is wider filled with small bushes between the stones covered with ice. As we move ahead, the Base Camp appears on the top of the Valley. Here it comes your dream destination, after about 2 hours slightly uphill walk, you are at Annapurna Base Camp surrounded by high mountains. There is a massif glacier behind the Lodges at the base camp where you can Photographs and spend several minutes enjoying the view of the entire valley overlooking the Annapurna Mountain.

After some time we trek back to MBC for lunch and further retrace our path until Himalaya or Dobhan. The night stop can be adjusted at Himalaya or Dobhan depending upon your pace and the time left for the day.
Day 07:We now trek back to Jhino Danda at the first day Stop

We will visit a hot spring at the bottom of the village in the evening. The hot spring is often damaged by the landslide and floods at the river but it is maintained by the villagers before each trekking season starts. Sometimes the local Mother's group might surprise you with welcome musical performances in the evening at nearby lodges.
Day 8:Trek Back to Syauli/Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara
It will be an easy but hotter last day walk along the same route we took before. After arriving at Syauli, we will have lunch while waiting for the Jeep/Bus.

After arriving at Pokhara, you can enjoy at Lakeside until late-night after a tiring week long hiking.
Day 09 Morning Sightseeing at Davis Falls, where the water from Fewa Lake pours and disappears at the deep gorge, visit Gupteshwory Cave and Tibetan Refuse Camp nearby.

Go Cycling around the Fewa Lake and visit local market if you still have time left.

Take afternoon flight back to Kathmandu.
Day 10 Take half day sightseeing in Kathmandu around Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath Temple and Patan Durbar Square before you will be dropped at International Airport for departure.

Trek Description

Everest base camp Trek is one of the best trekking trails in the world. After the first successful ascent of Mount Everest (8848 Meters) on May 29, 1953 by the New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese guide Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the beauty of Nepal and the adventurous trail leading to foothill of the highest peak in the world gradually attracted more and more mountaineers, nature lovers, scientists, surveyors, geologists, botanists, mining engineers and other amateur travelers around the world. Although the early travelers had to adapt the camping treks only, construction of sufficient number of teahouses, several luxury lodges, airports, helipads, mountain clinics  in the route and complete Everest trekking package offers operating from Kathmandu after the 1980s decade,  has made Everest Base Trek relatively safe and comfortable. Comprehensive guiding and supports from Sherpa guides and porters have made it even safer, enjoyable and more informative.

Now anyone with good health and fitness can take  the most adventurous flight to Lukla 2,860 metres (9,383 ft), and trek through the Khumbu Valley via Namche, Village, continue through Tenboche Monastery and reach at the base camp, watch the sunrise over massif  Everest and other high mountains from Kalapatthar 5545 meters (18192 ft) view point and retrace back to Kathmandu with lifetime experience at the lap of Himalayas with Sherpa people and their culture and finally wrap up their exotic vacation at Kathmandu city.

Everest Base Camp is located at the height of 5,380 m (17,600 ft) on the south side of Mt. Everest which is a small valley often covered with snow and ice with rocky ground and Khumbu Icefall flowing it’s way down to lower area. During climbing season in spring and autumn (rare), the base camp area is filled with colorful tents of climbers scattered across the valley.
Everest Base Camp Trek mainly has 3 major routes to reach there. One classic Jiri To EBC route, starting from Jiri, trekking via Lukla, Namche and and Dinboche, another through Gokyo Lake passing through the high pass at Cho La and the third and the most popular route is , flying to Lukla, trekking through Namche, Tenboche Monastery, Dinboche Valley and finally to the Base Camp.
All of these routes offer you the spectacular view of high mountains such as Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Amadablam, Kang Te Ga, Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest, Pumori and other peaks like Kongde, Lobuche, Cho La, Island Peak etc.

Everest Base Camp Trek offers you not just the mountainous views but also the most scenic view of landscape, rivers, alpine forest, streams, scattered local villages, fields and pastures. Trekking on this route gives you chance to closely experience the traditional life style and culture of Sherpa people who have been the phenomenal climber, guide and porter friends of trekkers and mountaineers since the mountaineering began in Nepal. Sherpa and the mountains are synonyms as described by some famous climbers respecting their contribution and honesty in the field of mountaineering. Sherpas follow Buddhism and their life style and customs are slightly influenced by the Tibetan culture.
You will see several Sherpa villages throughout this Everest Base Camp trek. There are several small villages around Lukla at the first day of trek. Major villages include Namche 3,440 metres (11,286 ft) on day 2 walk, Khumjung  3,970 m above Namche and the Panboche village at the height of 3,985 m (13,074 feet) above Tenboche Monastery.

Important Notes In Nepal Trip:

Meals at Everest Region

You can find an extensive worldwide menus in Kathmandu except sea-foods. There are hundreds of tourist restaurants and traditional local styled restaurant around Kathmandu recommended by lonely planet, trip advisor and other famous travel groups. Thakali Bhanchha  and Bhanchha Ghar are some of the best restaurants serving local Nepalese food. Our Itinerary includes one dinner at Bhanchha Ghar.
While in mountain, you will eat your dinner and breakfast at the lodge you stay and the lunch on the way to the next camp.
There won’t be so much choices of food while you are trekking to Everest Base Camp, although they serve wide range of menus but most of the foods are prepared in local style and used local ingredients. Foods mostly served in mountain include noodles, spaghettis, pastas, potatoes, breads, Tibetan breads, Momo (meat/veg dumpling), rice, pizzas (cheese/egg tomato), chicken items at lower region, Yak steaks, egg items, toasts, seasonal vegetables (cabbage, Tibetan spinach), corn flakes, milk (powdered) , Lasagnas , apple pie, canned Juices etc.
To avoid possible foodborne illness, we suggest you not to try any meat items above Tengboche while you are going up as we have seen many trekkers ruined their trip due to stomach pain, diarrhea. For freshness and quick serving, we can order similar items in the group as kitchens during high season are extremely busy.
What you will miss in Everest region hiking is the fresh fruits, you will hardly find some apples at some tea houses .Other fruit items are almost impossible. Carrying some fruit from Kathmandu is the only way if you want to eat fruits in Khumbu valley.

Bad weather and delayed flights to and from Lukla

Flights between Kathmandu and Lukla are often delayed by few hours or sometimes even by one or few days due to bad weather. In such cases your flights will be scheduled for the next coming flights, but you are responsible for extra expenses on food and accommodation in Lukla or Kathmandu while you are waiting for your flights. To avoid any international flight connecting problems in such circumstances, we highly recommend you to keep one or two buffer days that can be used for extra sightseeing, shopping or other activities of your choice even when everything goes smoothly according to your Itinerary.

Simple Things To Be Noted While Trekking In Everest Region

Try your shoes with those thick socks few times before you arrive Nepal that will make sure that it will not cause any blister or pain on your feet. We have seen many travelers suffer from the second day due to shoes size and structure.
Trying activities that needs excessive physical power like jumping photography, demonstrating dance or athletics might cause stress or sprain on your body, which might ruin your trip. So we have to be calm, patient and disciplined while in mountain to safeguard your body condition.
We have to walk in group to ensure the safety and not to get lost.
Running too fast or attaining too much height in a single day will lead to altitude sickness, so we have to walk slow and follow the itinerary unless in unavoidable situations
While in higher altitudes, sometimes we might need to share rooms or even sleep on the dining even when we have booked the room in prior to adjust the high volume of tourist.
Drinking alcohol, wife/husband, girlfriend/boyfriend activities and smoking above Namche is not suggested while you are going up.
It’s difficult to fall in sleep in mountain due to cold and oxygen deficiency, so going to bed early and trying to sleep again every time you wake up will enhance the sleep.
Buying hot water and sliding hot water bottle into your sleeping bag is the best way to keep you warm during nights, you can drink the same water next day while you walk.
Ordering breakfast at previous evening after dinner or early morning before packing are the best way for timely serving.
You may not feel tired due to height and cold in the higher altitudes even when your body is actually tired, so we need to have frequent rest and drink sufficient water.
Along the route, herds of   cattle like   Yaks , cows, donkeys etc are traveling carrying loads, so we need to see ahead and behind  to avoid any accident while walking on narrow trails, we need to lean on the corner side unless there is enough space in the lower side, otherwise they might push you.

The first word we will say on greetings is the NAMASTE, a humble word for welcome/good morning/good evening etc. Then we check in hotel and settle our last payment for the trip followed by introduction with trekking guide and a briefing about whole trip and next morning flight. Later you have to get some dollar (approx. 300) changed to Nepalese currency for the personal expenses during trekking .After checking necessary equipment for the last time, you can eat anywhere around and enjoy your free time around Thamel street which is the main touristic area in Kathmandu. We can suggest you the places if you need any restaurant with specific menu.

Day 02 Flight To Lukla (2860 m) and Trek to Phakding  (2610 m), 4.5 hrs walk , depends on your speed but our guide will eventually adjust your pace not to be too fast.

Early morning you will be driven to domestic airport where our guide will arrange all check in process and you will be in Tenjing-Hillary airport Lukla after 35 minutes of scenic and adventurous flight over mountains of Langtang Range.
Here you will take the first photograph of beautiful Khumbu Valley with Kongde peak on the eastern side overlooking the Lukla village. You will meet other crew here waiting for your luggage outside the arrival gate. Our staff will collect all the luggage and transfer to the nearby lodge where they will arrange the packing while you will be having your first breakfast in the mountain with chilly weather in Lukla.
After the breakfast, we will commence our trek towards the western side of the village through stone paved street, crowded with local people, trekkers, trekking porters, cattle and small traders at colorful shops. From the opposite direction you will see a lot of trekkers coming with greasy hair and wearing rags but with big smiles on their face as they are returning from their destination.
The trail now descends gradually through stone pave way, pine trees and bamboo forest and arrives at the small settlement of homes at Chheplung where the classic route of Jiri To EBC Trek meets with trail from Lukla.
Now the trail further continues through Ghat village with magnificent Mt.  Kusum Kangaru view on the north and Dudhkoshi river on the south side with lush green forest, stone carved Buddhist Mane Walls, prayer flags and stone sculptures .Hot lunch will be served at some teahouses here. After the lunch the trail slightly ascends before arriving at Phakding village where you will spend your first night in mountain.
You can wander around the village and the bridge over Dudhkoshi River in the afternoon. Some tourist like to hike up to the monastery across the river over a cliff.

Day 03 Phakding to Namche Bazar (3440 m) , 06 hrs

It is going to be harder and hotter day on this second day walk. After eating the breakfast at 7 am, our trek starts at 8 am. After crossing the suspension bridge, we walk towards north side of the valley following Dushkoshi River crossing the same river at several places. Giant peak on our right side is the Mt. Tahmserku seen above alpine line. As we go up, we will pass through forest with pine trees,  several villages like Tok Tok, Bengkar with few houses and tea shops before arriving at Monjo (2840 m), the entrance point of Sagarmatha National Park,  where we will register our national park permit and TIMS card for the first time. Inside the tourist check post you might like to see the exclusive map of the Everest region where you will be trekking for next couple of days.
The trail now descends down through the rocky stairs and crosses a suspension bridge before arriving at Jorsale village for lunch. After the lunch, the trail again follows the river and arrives at the confluence of the Dudhkosi and Sunkoshi River in a high suspension bridge with colorful prayer flags. The hardest part of the day starts here as we will be hiking uphill for about 2 hrs. along the ridge. Although Everest range is often covered with cloud in the afternoon, you might see the first glimpse of the Mt. Everest from a Platform at around the middle of the uphill through pine trees.
After some rest, we will continue for another 40 minutes before arriving at the ridge where you will have the first view of Namche village. We have to walk further about 20 minutes to arrive in Namche.
Few minute walk uphill around the village in the afternoon is recommended for better acclimatization that will make your sleep more comfortable.

Day 04 Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar

Today we sleep and rest until late in the morning. We eat our breakfast at 09 am and go on hiking to Everest view point for about 3 hours. We head through the stone staircases of the village and climb through the ridge on the northern direction. After approx. 1 hr walk, we will be in Syanboche airport (3,780 m) , which is not in operation due to risky geographic location and irregular weather except some special chartered small place and helicopter flights .Further 30 minutes’ walk, we will be at Everest point offering you the first clear view of Mt Everest and panoramic view of most of the mountains in the area such as Kongde Peak, Thamsherku, Amadablam, Everest, Lhotse, Nupse, Taboche peak, Chola Peak, Island Peak etc. Drinking tea/coffee or hot chocolate and enjoying the incredible views of mountain and the terrain from here is the best way to spend the morning.
20 minutes further walk will take you to the Hotel Everest View which is a luxury hotel located at the third highest altitude in the world, after Hotel Tayka del Desierto Bolivia and Yeti Mountain Home Kongde Nepal, run by Japanese management. We can visit around the hotel.
Now we walk towards the top of the hill from where we can see the picturesque Khumjung village with Hillary School, Hillary Clinic and Khumjung Monastery. After some time we return back to Namche for late lunch and wander around the Namche village.
Namche is the last place to check your gears where you can buy almost all trekking gears. Here we have facilities of internet café, STD/ISD calls, post office (send back cards home/friends), German Bakery, Pool Hall, Iris Pub and Sherpa Museum. Moreover there is a weekly Saturday Market called Hat Bazaar selling Tibetan stuff.

Day 05 Namche to Tenboche (3860 m), 6 hrs

It is going to be easier day as the trail goes leveled and slightly downhill during the whole morning. The views will be incredible as we continue walk through the Sanasa village where another famous trail Everest Gokyo Lakes Trek splits from our trail to Everest Base Camp. The trail now descends to the river bank at Phungi Tanga which is our lunch place. After the lunch, it will be little tougher as the trails goes uphill for about 2 hours until the hotel at Tenboche.
Tenboche has the biggest Buddhist monastery in the region and offers spectacular view of Amadablam and Everest range. There is a praying ceremony inside the monastery every afternoon which you can also observe. There is an Eco-Centre offering you information about the area, selling mountain labeled t-shirts and showing different mountain documentaries.
There is a German Bakery selling tea/coffee and different delicious breads.  Many tourist want to stop here to refresh their taste after several days of leaving home.

Day 06 Trek to Dinboche (4410 m), 6 hours

Today the trail starts towards the northern side of the village through rhododendron forest which is Nepal’s national flower. We need to be more careful as the first 30 minutes of the trail is often covered with snow even during peak trekking season. Herds of Himalayn Thar (deer) are often spotted around this area. The trail now continues through right side of the hill until a bridge over Sunkoshi and ascends until Panboche village which is the last village settlement inhabited by local Sherpa people .The tree line finishes here and only small patches of  bushy shrubs are seen on the ground. Panboche has a primary school at the top of the village. After passing Panboche village, there are few teahouses at where we will eat our lunch. As we go up, 3D view of Mt. Amadablam makes your day. After the lunch, We will take the right had side route as the left route goes to Pheriche. The trail further continues through alpine meadows and crosses the river and finally ascends to the Dinboche village at Imja valley. The village looks beautiful with array of stone enclosed farm. People often take one more side day trip from here to Chhukung towards the towering Island peak that gives more time for acclimation and views are always incredible.

Day 07 Trek to Lobuche (4910 m), 5.5 hours

This is the crucial day here as we are crossing 4500 m height from the sea level. Many people return from here either because of cold or sickness. If you start your morning here with fresh body and mind, you can be sure that you are going to conquer the Base Camp the next day. There is a clinic at the next village in Pheriche in case of sickness with doctors and volunteers who can also assist in case of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) as they have the Gamo Pressure Bag used for severe patient suffered by AMS.
Walking is much easier here as the trail continues through valley and meadows if not because of cold and thinner air due to increasing height. After few hours of easy morning walk, we will be at Thukla with one or two teahouse serving lunch and hot drinks.
After eating lunch at Thukla, the trail goes steep up for one hour through rocky trail until the top with Mani Walls and several memorials of late mountaineers. Now we enter to the Valley leading to Khumbu Icefall originated from EBC. The black hill seen at the far end is the Kalapatthar inviting you. You will be in Lobuche after half an hour of easy walk through the valley.
You can wander around the teahouse if you don’t feel lazy but we shouldn’t go far away as the temperature goes down sharply once the Sun goes down. Glaciers around looks amazing but there are a lot of crevasses covered with fresh snow that might cause accident.

Day 08 Trek to Gorakshep (5,153 m) , 3.5 hrs,  continue to Everest Base Camp (5,363 m), 2.5 hrs and return to Gorakshep

Today is the toughest and the most awaited day that we have dreamed so long, the day starts as normal days after breakfast at hotel. The trail goes along the valley towards the northern end enclosed by the mountain. As we go ahead the Mt. Pumori looks spectacular overlooking Kalapaththar. Next from Pumori on the end wall are Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse and the northern crest of Mt. Everest. The towering range seen on the right hand side is of Mt. Nupse. Everest is visible only after you arrive near Gorakshep. The glacial lakes scattered along the Icefall looks amazing. From here on, basically there is no vegetation seen as the ground are all rocky and often covered with ice although herds of Tibetan snow cocks are seen along the trail.
After some rest and lunch at Gorakshep, we will advance towards the Base camp. After crossing the Gorakskep Lake, the trail slightly ascends and there will be several ups and downs before we descend down to Base Camp on the foot of Khumbu Icefall. There you are, although the Everest is not visible from here, the route to top looks heavenly from here. The glacier, icefall and colorful tents used by climbers during climbing season looks stunning. After taking photographs and enjoying the view around, we will retrace back our trail to tea house at Gorakshep with big smile on our face and head held high.

Day 09 Hike Up to Kalaaththar (5545 m) 3 hrs and Trek down to Pheriche (4,371 m) 4 hours

We begin early morning at around 05:15 am (guide will check the seasonal sunrise time) with torch lights. We need to wear properly as the morning are much colder as we go up the morning becomes brighter and warmer. The trail goes steep up to the top of Kalapaththar for about 2 hours. There is a huge rock on the top of Kalapaththar where many tourist want to climb and take photographs but it’s very dangerous. From here, sunrise view over Mt. Everest is spectacular, here is the best view point for Mt. Everest, Pumori and Mt. Nupse. The 360 degree view of other mountains seen from here are Mt Lhotse, Mt. Amadublam, Mt. Thamsherku, Kongde Peak, Gokyo Peak and Lobuche Peak.
After spending some time, we retrace back to hotel for breakfast and trek down to Pheriche. The day feel much warmer as we go down with the feeling of accomplishment. Perfect place for lunch will be at Thukla. After lunch we will take the lower right hand route, upper one leads to Dinboche which we had taken last time while going up. After 10-20 minutes’ downhill walk, Pheriche is seen at the far eastern corner which actually takes much longer time than it seems to be. Night will be much warmer and sleep will be a lot better in Pheriche after nights of short sleeps and days of strenuous walk.

Day 10 Trek to Namche 7 hours Good Shower, Better Dinner

Although it’s long day walk, it becomes much easier for you while going down. Until now you are much accustomed to mountain trail and moreover the warm dining, delicious food and hot shower in Namche is inviting you, so your day walk will be warm, pleasant and easy. Once again we look back at Everest and the neighboring mountains while eating lunch at Tenboche. The trail descends down to the river bank after lunch and ascends until Sanasa after crossing the river and goes straight until Namche.Look back at the beautiful Amadablam and Everest range for the last time before arriving at Namche. There are a lot of things you can spend the evening in Namche bazaar before dinner at Tea House.

Day 11 Namche to Lukla Last Day Walk 07 hours

It’s going to be a long day walk but the feeling of last day makes it not so hard. We retrace the same route as we used while going up. The forest and river looks much familiar to you now and it is the better day to study people and the surroundings on the way down. Most of the porters here come from the lower area during trekking and climbing season as most of the Sherpa from higher altitude are busy on working for high paid climbing job. Sherpas had been the most important friend of trekkers and the mountaineers as they are born in High Mountain, their bodies are better acclimatized with the thin air and their skill to deal with mountain is much higher than anyone from lower area, but their behavior is the most humble and honest. Many Sherpas have lost their lives in the mountain but they always respect and pray the mountain as the God. Their custom, religion, festivals etc. are influenced by Tibetan Buddhism. Only seasonal potatoes and buckwheat can be grown in this area, so most of the food are imported from lower region. The trees grown in this area are mostly Pine, Fur and the Juniper. Juniper leaves are used as sacred Incense by Buddhists people. You can see the burning Juniper leavers with sweet fragrance along the route.
After the last lunch at Phakding, we will continue the last day walk until Lukla. If you see the afternoon is not so cloudy, it’s a good sign of timely flight tomorrow. As we have one buffer day in our Itinerary we are at much safer state. The last one hour will be little harder as the trail goes up until the busy small market of Lukla village.
Lukla feels colder than Namche as it’s closer to river and the sun sets quickly in this village overshadowed by the mountain wall behind.
Here is the last chance to enjoy dinner together with your guide and porters who have been parts of your almost 2 week’s journey. Here is the last evening you all can recall and review your trip and smile, chat and appreciate each other. You can drink and dance on the wooden floor at Lodge in Lukla surrounding the campfire at the center of dining hall until the midnight.

Day 12 Fly Back to Kathmandu, Free Afternoon for cleaning and shopping

Normally planes aren’t parked in Lukla airport, so the buzzing sound from the south in the morning while you are eating your last breakfast at Lodge in Lukla, is the first sign that we are flying out soon. Our guide will give you the update status of your flight time. If any flights on previous day are cancelled, your flight time may be pushed to next one.
